Reading Opens All Doors

The Journey

What is ROAD?

Welcome to ROAD!

ROAD is an acronym for 'Reading Opens All Doors'. It is a Reading Programme that has been designed and created at Hale School to encourage the enjoyment of reading through Middle School to the Senior School and life after school.

You will be part of a continuum of reading development that focuses on strengthening reading concentration spans and enriching reading experiences, through sharing insights into a variety of genres, authors and literary narratives. You will have access to resources in a wide range of genres and formats and be able to set goal and  record and evaluate your achievements.

Your reading journey begins now!

Make the most of this opportunity to explore the breadth and wonder of discovering vibrant cultures, inspirational people, unusual characters, historical events, modern challenges and literary award winners

We’ve collected recommendations from teachers, librarians, booksellers, publishers, parents, and guys themselves.  These are the books that guys have said they like.  We’ve gathered and grouped them to make them easier to find.  So check out the categories below or type something—a title, an author, or a subject you’re interested in—over there on the left.

Cambridge Library e-membership

As part of a new initiative to encourage students to focus on their reading, Hale School has formed an e-membership partnership with Cambridge Library.

This partnership will allow students to access a huge variety of eResources including: ebooks, emagazines, eAudiobooks plus a variety of educational databases.

While the e-membership does not allow boys to have full membership (i.e. to borrow physical items from the Library), it is a step towards enhancing greater community engagement, with the prospect, of students becoming lifelong library users.

Please fill in the details below and return asap to the Library or Teacher Librarian, to allow your child to become a Cambridge Library e-member. They will be issued with a numbered library card that they can use to access the e-Library Services.

Thank you for your support with this initiative and please do not hesitate to contact the Teacher Librarian via email or by phone on 9347 9723, if you have any queries.
